PHASE I ORTHODONTICS
(Early Intervention)
This 8 year old patient’s parents were
concerned about his appearance and
the health of his erupting permanent
teeth. His lower front teeth were
crowded and they touched the roof of his
mouth. His upper front teeth were
extremely displaced from their normal
positions. After 20 months of Phase I
treatment with an expander and partial
braces, this patient's appearance and
dental function were vastly improved.
OPEN BITE
(Front Teeth Don't Touch)
Patient sucked her thumb as a child
& started treatment at age 13. She
wore braces and a special dental
appliance, called a "crib," to retrain
her tongue. Treatment was completed
in 28 months.
SPACING PROBLEMS
(Excessive space between teeth)
Patient wore braces for 24 months to
close the spaces between his teeth.
Special glued-in retainers help keep
the spaces closed.
UNDERBITE
(Lower front teeth are
in front of upper teeth)
Patient's underbite was causing her jaw
joint discomfort and excessive wear of
treatment starting at age thirty-two, she
now finds smiling and chewing much
easier.
OVERBITE
(Protruding front teeth)
At age ten, patient had a big overbite
with the top teeth protruding beyond
the bottom. She had two phases of
treatment. The first helped her jaws to
grow more harmoniously; the second
aligned her teeth and bite. At age
thirteen, she was proudly displaying
her new smile.
