Dr. John's Office

Pediatric Dentistry
You are Visitor #
OUR GOAL
Our office goal is to have your child leave our practice with healthy teeth and a positive attitude towards dental care. We emphasize the prevention of disease rather than wait for it to occur. The prevention of dental disease is a team effort and includes your involvement and commitment here at our office and at home.

BEFORE THE FIRST VISIT
Please discuss the positive aspects of dentistry with your child. Convey good feelings to your child about dental visits being a part of growing up. You can explain that Dr. Christensen will look at and count all their teeth. Explain to your child that Dr. Christensen will be gentle and friendly.  Please do not tell your child the dentist will not hurt, as this may have never entered their mind. Rather, emphasize that Dr. Christensen will be gentle and friendly. Please do not use words such as needle, shots, drill or other words suggesting unpleasantness. Expect your child to do well and enjoy their first visit to our office.

The initial appointment is reserved specifically for your child. Any change in this appointment affects many patients. If a cancellation is unavoidable, please call the office at least 24 hours in advance so that we may give that time to another patient. Please complete the Health History Form and bring it with you to the first appointment.

THE FIRST VISIT
We believe that the first dental examination for your child should be around age one or the eruption of the first teeth. At this appointment, our staff will review the Health History Form with you. At that time, you and your child will be introduced to our dental team.  Parents are welcome to accompany their child into the treatment area during the initial examination. This gives you an opportunity to see our staff in action and allows Dr. Christensen to discuss dental findings and treatment needs directly with you. One note of advice is offered. Your presence will be greatly enhanced if you assume the role of an observer. If more than one person is talking, your child may become confused.  Cooperation and trust is best established directly between Dr. Christensen and your child.

Your child's examination will determine if there are any dental problems developing. Our staff will discuss preventive issues such as oral hygiene instructions, toothpaste use and fluoride exposure. We look forward to having you and your child visit our office.

Dr. Christensen will perform a head and neck examination and evaluate the health of the teeth and gums. Radiographs (x-rays) are taken when Dr. Christensen feels they are indicated. Their teeth will be cleaned and fluoride applied to the teeth if indicated. Additional services will be scheduled for a later visit if necessary.
